Christmas Message from the Commander, PSG

Christmas is a time for families and friends to gather and share in merriment, gift giving, and good food – away from the demands of work and school. It is a time when those who have left, come home from all over the country, and even the world, to celebrate with their loved ones, the spirit of hope, peace, and love as we remember the meaning of the birth of our Lord.

For us men and women in uniform, Christmas is made much more significant. Tasked to protect the president and the seat of government, we seldom have time to spend with our families, even for the occasional birthdays and anniversaries. And even though Christmas Day and the New Year’s celebration is no different – for as we all know, the call of duty has no day or time – just knowing that our families and the rest of the country are celebrating this holiday in peace strengthens our dedication to our duty and our mission.

So for the PSG Troopers that are here with your loved ones, maximize this opportunity to celebrate the holidays with your family. For those whose spouse, children, and even parents as the case may be, are far away, the holiday break is fast approaching. Soon enough would be your chance to reconnect with your families and I hope that those days would be filled with love and joy.

Let us also take this time to remember and pray for our brothers in arms who are manning the posts in far-flung areas – posts we once walked ourselves, and have felt the loneliness of distance and isolation. Let us hope that they be one with us in celebrating this season, and let us feel the joy and satisfaction of knowing that we have been given the privilege to serve in a most unique manner for the sake of peace.

It is therefore in this spirit of goodwill that I and my family convey our best wishes and fervent prayers for the holiday season to every man and woman of the Presidential Security Group, and your families. May we all savor and enjoy the true spirit and substance of Christmas and I pray that the almighty God will continue to shower His blessings upon us and give us strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication in the performance of our duties and responsibilities.
